New Jersey Man Indicted After Allegedly Killing Girlfriend and Her Son, 7

A man has been indicted on two counts of murder for allegedly killing his girlfriend and her young son and then setting their southern New Jersey home on fire last year.

Atlantic County prosecutors say 39-year-old Joseph Palmer III, of Egg Harbor City, also faces an aggravated arson charge and two weapons counts in the indictment handed up Wednesday by a county grand jury.

Palmer was found injured outside the residence shortly after the fire was reported in November 2014. He was arrested after he was released from the hospital.

The bodies of 38-year-old Michelle Pabst and her 7-year-old son, Gavin Pabst, were found inside the home after firefighters extinguished the blaze. An autopsy determined that Michelle Pabst died of multiple sharp and blunt-force injuries, while her son was stabbed multiple times.

Palmer remains jailed on $2 million cash bail.
