Man Impaled by Steel Bar After Robbers Throw Him Into Hole

A man is recovering after police say he was impaled by a steel bar during a robbery.

Police say the 38-year-old man was on Broad and Grange Streets in the Ogontz section of the city around 12:45 a.m. on Sunday when at least three men approached him.

The suspects chased after the victim, began to assault him and went through his pockets, according to police. Investigators say the suspects then picked the man up and threw him into a SEPTA construction site with several steel bars sticking out from a hole in the ground.

The victim was then impaled in his stomach area by rebar as the suspects fled.

The man was taken to Einstein Hospital where he underwent surgery. He is currently in stable condition.

Investigators have not yet determined how much the suspects stole or released a description of them.
