Man Hit, Killed on Germantown Sidewalk

A man standing on the sidewalk was hit and killed in Philadelphia's Germantown section.

A man was struck and killed by a vehicle Sunday night in Philadelphia's Germantown section.

Police say that just before 7 p.m., the 58-year old victim was standing on the sidewalk at East Price and Lena Streets when he was struck by a grey Oldsmobile minivan. The van flipped, and while still on its side, the 22-year-old driver and a passenger both exited the vehicle and fled the scene, authorities tell NBC Philadelphia.

They later returned, and police say they were being questioned for possibly driving under the influence. So far, no charges have been filed.

The victim was taken rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Bahayyah Darden told NBC Philadelphia the victim is her uncle, Cornell Edens. She said he was walking to her mother's home for a visit when he was struck and killed. Darden said her mother saw the whole thing happen.

"It's a sad situation. You know, if it was their family, they would want someone to stick around, at least to make sure he's OK. They didn't wait or dial 911 or nothing," Darden said.
