Man Pleads Guilty to Shooting at Police from Hotel

A northeastern Pennsylvania man faces up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to firing shots at four police officers while he was holed up in a hotel with a woman being held against her will.

A sentencing date was not immediately set after 41-year-old Barry Keiper Jr., of Moosic, pleaded guilty to attempted homicide in the Jan. 28 standoff at the Rodeway Inn in Moosic.

Police say Keiper told them either police or he were going to die before he surrendered to end the five-hour standoff.

Keiper's girlfriend told police he wanted to commit suicide by cop.

As part of Friday's plea agreement in Lackawanna County Court, prosecutors recommended a sentence of seven to 20 years in prison. A judge must still approve the agreement.
