Man Escapes Corrections Center in Wilmington

Officials say the man was spotted leaving the facility on Thursday around 6:45 p.m. by climbing over a perimeter fence.

Police continue to search for a man who they say escaped a Corrections Center in Wilmington.

John Hensley, 22, is serving an 8-month sentence at the Plummer Community Corrections Center for violation of probation on an assault charge, according to investigators. Officials say Hensley was spotted leaving the facility on Thursday around 6:45 p.m. by climbing over a perimeter fence.

Police say the Plummer Community Corrections Center is a Level 4 facility where the Department of Correction manages offenders who are transitioning back into the community. The centers are not secured like Level 5 prisons and offenders are allowed to leave the facility to go to work, seek jobs or attend approved treatment sessions.

Hensley is described as a white male standing 5-foot-6 and weighing 170 pounds with brown eyes and a shaved head. Police also say he has pierced ears, a scar on his chest and tattoo on his right forearm. He was last seen wearing black pants and a black shirt. Police also say his last known address is in Wilmington.
