Man Dead After Police Shootout

One man is dead after allegedly firing at three police officers in the Olney section of Philadelphia.

It happened Tuesday around 6:30 p.m. Police say three highway patrol officers were searching the area after responding to a robbery report on 4th and Chew Avenue.

Investigators say they spotted a man who fit the description of the robbery suspect on North 2nd Street. They began chasing the man on foot when police say he turned around and fired a weapon at the officers.

The officers fired back, striking the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No word yet on his identity.

No officers were injured in the shooting.
