Man Crashes Stolen Motorcycle: Cops

Police identified the suspect as Jonathan Hood, 28, of Frederica, Delaware.

Delaware State Police arrested a man who they say crashed a stolen motorcycle.

It happened Monday around midnight on Coastal Highway and Johnson Road in Milford, Delaware. A state trooper was on routine patrol when investigators say he saw a motorcycle traveling southbound on Route 1 above the posted speed limit.

The trooper began to follow the motorcycle which pulled to the shoulder of the roadway and appeared to stop, according to police. Investigators say the motorcycle then suddenly accelerated away from the trooper and weaved in and out of traffic at a high speed. As the trooper continued to pursue, investigators say the rider lost control and crashed in the center median.

The rider then allegedly began to flee on foot across a field where he was eventually taken into custody. Police identified the suspect as Jonathan Hood, 28, of Frederica, Delaware. He was not injured in the crash, according to investigators.

Police say a computer check revealed the motorcycle was stolen from a North Little Creek address in Dover back on April 6. Hood was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property, reckless driving, resisting arrest and other related offenses. He was arraigned and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $6,500 secured bail.
