Man Rams Cops, Drives Wrong Way on New Jersey Turnpike: Police

Authorities say a New York City man slammed into the back of a Port Authority police car before turning around and heading the wrong way on the New Jersey Turnpike.

Police say 25-year-old Christian Aguirre was taken into custody Sunday morning and charged with DWI, leaving the scene of an accident and related offenses.

The officers were driving along a northern stretch of the turnpike in Bayonne when his BMW struck their car, sending them into the guard rail. Police say he then headed west while still in the eastbound lanes.

Authorities say the driver's blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit.

The officers were treated at a hospital and released.

It wasn't immediately clear if Aguirre had an attorney who could comment on the charges.
