Man Convicted in Slaying of Ex-Girlfriend's Beau

A northern New Jersey man accused of fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend's new beau has been convicted of reckless manslaughter.

Union County prosecutors say 26-year-old Saint Merilan of Newark was also convicted of two weapons charges stemming from the August 2012 attack. The verdicts were announced Wednesday.

Authorities say Merilan had driven to his ex-girlfriend's home in Elizabeth to drop off their daughter and was still in his car when the woman arrived with her new boyfriend, 25-year-old Marchkenson Flobert. The men began arguing and briefly scuffled before Merilan got a knife from his car and stabbed Flobert multiple times.

Merilan was arrested the same day.

He now faces up to 10 years in prison when he's sentenced Oct. 24.
