Man Convicted in Death of Woman Found in Woods

An eastern Pennsylvania man has been found guilty of killing a woman whose body was found in a wooded area off a major highway last year.

A Lehigh County jury on Monday found 21-year-old Jonathan Nunez of Allentown guilty of first-degree murder in the July 2012 death of 20-year-old Kimberly Cardona of Whitehall Township.

Prosecutors said Nunez beat Cardona unconscious during an argument, slit her throat and dragged the body into nearby woods near Interstate 78 before dousing it with bleach.

Defense attorney Glennis Clark had argued that his client was too drunk and drugged out to form the intent necessary for first-degree murder and he unsuccessfully sought a third-degree murder conviction.

First-degree murder carries a mandatory term of life in prison. Nunez's sentencing is scheduled Oct. 9.
