A man convicted of killing another man over an argument about fireworks has been sentenced to life in prison.
Twenty-two-year-old Sirron Benson of Wilmington was convicted of first-degree murder in April in the death of 22-year-old Braheem Curtis. He was sentenced Friday in Superior Court in Wilmington.
The News Journal of Wilmington reports that prosecutors say on July 3, 2011, Curtis confronted Benson, who was throwing lighted fireworks near where children were playing.
Authorities say Benson left, got a gun and went back to the scene.
Prosecutors say while standing across the street, Benson fired and hit Curtis in the chest. Officials say Benson walked up to Curtis and shot him again while he was on the ground.
