Man Convicted With Murder in Girlfriend's Stabbing Death

A northwestern Pennsylvania man has been convicted of first-degree murder in the in the stabbing death of his girlfriend two years ago.

Jurors in Elk County also convicted 24-year-old Nicholas Martin of Johnsonburg on Monday of abuse of a corpse in the death of 18-year-old Alyssa Forsyth of Ridgway.

Authorities said the victim was stabbed more than 100 times with a knife and a screwdriver. Her nude body was found covered with trash bags near deer carcasses in a park in March 2013.

Defense attorney Michael Marshall argued that the case was a "passion killing'' rather than a premeditated murder.

Martin faces a mandatory term of life in prison without possibility of parole.
