Man Charged in New Jersey Bar Brawl, Stabbing

One man faces numerous charges and several people were injured when a large brawl broke out at a central New Jersey restaurant.

New Brunswick police responded to the Tropicana Restaurant & Bar around 10:20 p.m. Sunday for a reported large fight and possible stabbing. They soon saw 34-year-old city resident Carmelo Datt-Torres waving a knife and chasing another person through the parking lot.

Datt-Torres was soon subdued without incident, and officers recovered the knife he was carrying. He was charged with making terroristic threats, possession of cocaine and several weapons offenses.

Officers found multiple patrons in the restaurant with various injuries, mostly cuts and lacerations. The injured patrons said they were hit with broken bottles during the fight, but none of the injuries were considered life-threatening.
