Man Charged With Kidnapping, Raping Woman

Woman was pushed out of vehicle, police say

A man has been arrested and charged with kidnapping and raping a woman last week after she stepped out of a restaurant to use her phone, Wilmington Police said.

Kharak Singh, 21, was arrested Saturday after police executed a search warrant at a home on Dillon Drive in New Castle.

The alleged incident took place early Wednesday morning. The victim said she left the Sante Fe restaurant on Pennsylvania Avenue and stood in the parking lot to use her phone at about 11:15 p.m. That's when she said she was suddenly grabbed by the arm by two people and forced into the backseat of a vehicle. The vehicle then pulled away and the two men sexually assaulted her, according to police. She was pushed out of the car at about 2:10 a.m. in the 1700 block of Old Cooch's Bridge Road in Newark, where she tracked down help at a nearby home.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries and the sexual assault, police said.

The victim said there were about three to five people in the car at the time of the attack.

Singh was charged Saturday with rape, kidnapping and conspiracy.
