Man Bound, Gagged, Killed in Home Break-in

The home invasion happened in Olney on Tuesday

Police are investigating the death of a man who was found tied up and gagged Tuesday afternoon in the Olney section of Philadelphia.

Police say the victim's wife discovered his body when she arrived at her home shortly before 4:30 p.m. on the 200 block of West Ruscomb Street.

He was found in a second floor bedroom bleeding and unresponsive while bound by duct-tape at his wrists, mouth and feet. Investigators found two bullet casings inside the home. They believe the victim was shot in the shoulder and the hip. They also found a 45 pound bar with blood on it. They believe the victim was struck in the head with it.

Relatives identified the man as 40-year-old Sophos Siv, an operator of a car service agency who drove day laborers to and from work. Siv came to Philadelphia from Cambodia with his family in the mid-1970s, according to relatives. He leaves behind a wife and stepdaughter.

"The house does appear to have been ransacked," said Philadelphia Chief Inspector Scott Small. "At this point we're treating this as home invasion, robbery, homicide. We're going to do a thorough investigation. We're going to talk to neighbors. We're going to locate witnesses."
