Woman Shot in Head in Queen Village Home

A 32-year-old woman is in critical condition after a gunman shot her twice in the head inside her own Philadelphia home Monday night.

The shooter attacked the woman inside a rowhome on the 900 block of South 5th Street in the Queen Village section of the city around 10 p.m., according to police.

She was rushed to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where she remains in critical condition, according to officials.

Police have a person of interest in the case, but have yet to identify a suspect.

"We do know that there is a 32-year-old male who resides in the property with the female," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small. "Right now, that's a person we're calling a 'person of interest.'"

The person of interest's brother contacted police when the crime occurred, according to investigators, who recovered a gun from the crime scene.

"We did find a semi-automatic weapon on the scene and that does appear to be the same calibur as the spent shell casings on the living room floor next to the victim's body," Small said.

Authorities are also reviewing footage of the area collected by private and public surveillance cameras.
