Man Beats, Burns, Kills Wife: Police

Ashok Kumar Guru, 53, was arrested and charged with murdering his wife, Northeast Philadelphia Police said this morning.

Officers arrived at the Gifford Street home Thursday morning after receiving a call that someone was screaming inside.

The victim, Shakuntla Guru, 42, was found on the living room floor with what investigators suggest are burn marks. There is also evidence that the woman was beaten with a shovel handle and strangled.

Police believe infidelity was the reason for the attack.
