Man Attacks, Tries to Electrocute Girlfriend: Cops

Police arrested an Upland man for allegedly attacking and trying to electrocute his girlfriend with a hair dryer after an argument.

A Delaware County man is in jail after he allegedly beat up his girlfriend and tried to electrocute her.
Police say David C. Aungst III, 26, was arguing with his girlfriend on Saturday at his home on the first block of Seventh Street in Upland.

When she tried to leave the home, Aungst allegedly began to physically attack her. The woman told police Aungst held her down, threw her to the ground, kicked her and punched her for several hours. When she managed to run upstairs and lock herself inside the bathroom, Aungst allegedly broke the door down and ripped off her shirt and bra.

The woman claims Aungst then turned the water on in the shower, picked up a hair dryer and threatened to electrocute her as she begged him not to hurt her. As he threatened her, the woman claims he tried to force her into the shower.

Aungst then allegedly began to choke the woman with his hands. Police then say the woman managed to fight back and free herself. As she tried to run outside, police say Aungst grabbed the woman’s cell phone, chased her down, threw her to the ground and punched her in the eye. She then managed to escape again when Aungst threw her phone, according to investigators.

The woman ran out of the house towards another home where she banged on the door and screamed for help, according to police. Aungst caught her once again, grabbed her neck and dragged her back inside the house, according to investigators.

Investigators say Aungst eventually fell asleep and the victim fled.

The woman was taken to the hospital where police took pictures of her injuries. Police say the woman suffered a black eye, bruising and scratches on her back, arms, left foot and neck.

Police arrived at Aungst’s home that afternoon and took him into custody. Police claim they found four Xanax pills in his front pocket during his arrest.

Aungst is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated and simple assault, terroristic threats and other related offenses.

He is being held in Delaware County prison in lieu of $50,000 cash bail. His hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
