Driver Arrested in Deadly Crash That Killed 2 Cousins

Police say the suspect was intoxicated at the time of the fatal crash.

Middle Township Police have arrested a man in connection with the crash that killed two teenage cousins Tuesday night in Middle Township, New Jersey.

Joshua Malmgren, 30, was arrested at the scene of the fatal crash on Bayshore Drive in Green Creek that killed cousins, Ashley Dauber, 13, and Nioami Lazicki, 15.

Investigators say that Malmgren was intoxicated while driving the vehicle that crashed into and killed the teens as they were walking with Nioami's sister Farrahanne east on Bayshore Drive.

"I get a text message at 9:10 saying 'Mom, we're on our way, be home in 10 minutes'," Christine Lazicki told NBC10's Christine Maddela.

Eight minutes later, Lazicki says she received a call from Farrahanne informing them that Ashley and Nioami had been hit.

"And that was it. Then I raced to her to try to save my baby's life," said Lazicki.

Both girls were pronounced dead on the scene.

"I wish this was a horrible dream and she'd come walking through the door," Lazicki said.

"I'm going to miss her to the moon and back," Jennifer Dauber said of Ashley. "She was my world."

Malmgren is facing multiple charges including two counts of Death of Vehicular Homicide, Driving While Intoxicated and Reckless Driving.

He is being held at the Cape May County Correctional Center in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.
