Police arrested 26-year-old Joseph Stansberry for allegedly burglarizing two homes in Galloway Township.

Police arrested a man for allegedly burglarizing two houses in Galloway Township.

On Oct. 24 Joseph Stansberry, 26, of Galloway, broke into a home on Zenia Avenue and stole jewelry and other items, police say.

Stansberry also allegedly targeted a home on Oakburne Avenue on Oct. 26. During that incident, police say the homeowner returned to his house around 11 a.m. and encountered Stansberry. Stansberry fled the scene on a bicycle and was able to escape police after abandoning his bike and fleeing into a wooded area, according to investigators.

On Friday, around 12:24 p.m., Galloway Township Police Detective Ryan Goehringer spotted Stansberry while waiting at a traffic light in Atlantic City.

Police say Stansberry was sitting on the passenger’s side of a car driven by Matthew Meneely, 23, of Galloway.

Detective Goehringer recognized Stansberry as the suspect in the two Galloway home burglaries and followed the vehicle until it parked near the corner of Pacific and Martin Luther King Boulevard.
Police say Meneely and Stansberry then left the car and entered a Rite Aid pharmacy. Detective Goehringer found both men inside the store. Stansberry then allegedly fled through the rear door prompting a foot chase for several blocks. Police say Detective Goehringer finally caught up to Stansberry and was able to apprehend him.

Meneely was able to escape the area on Friday but was found and arrested on Saturday.

Stansberry is being held in the Atlantic County Jail on $100,000 cash bail. He is charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of theft and resisting arrest.

Meneely is charged with obstruction of justice in connection with Stansberry’s arrest. He was released on a summons.

Galloway Police say they are continuing to investigate other reported residential burglaries that occurred in the town.
