Man Accused of Planning ‘War' Against Troopers Found Guilty

A former Pennsylvania man accused of planning to "go to war" with state troopers has been found guilty on all charges.

Jurors on Thursday found 57-year-old Howard "Tim" Cofflin, Jr., of Dundalk, Maryland, guilty of attempted murder, terrorism and other charges.

Prosecutors say Cofflin was upset by a protective order and threatened to cut off his ex-girlfriend's head with an ax, then kill state troopers in York County and county judges.

Cofflin's defense attorney in the case contacted police to warn them Cofflin had body armor and was building a rifle.

Troopers say he built bombs from propane tanks, searched "how to kill a state trooper" on his phone, and studied the habits of troopers stationed near his former home in Loganville.

His lawyer argued Cofflin's actions were a cry for help.

Sentencing is set for April 26.
