Man Accused of Killing Correction Officer's Son in Court

Jalil Cooper is due in court Tuesday for his preliminary hearing.

The man accused of killing a correction officer's son in the Frankford section of the city is due in court Tuesday.

Police say that on May 20, Jalil Cooper shot and killed 25-year-old Edward Pagan.

Cooper also allegedly shot Pagan's father, Victor Guzman, 50, a Philadelphia corrections officer.

Guzman told police that the suspect asked his son for a cigarette. When Pagan told him he didn't have one, the two began arguing. It was then that Cooper allegedly pulled out his gun and shot both men.

Cooper is charged with murder, possession of a firearm and other related offenses. He is due in court Tuesday for his preliminary hearing.
