Trooper Pinned Under Car; 70-Year-Old Man Charged

A 70-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault and other crimes for allegedly backing his car onto a state trooper's leg after a brief police chase and crash in southwestern Pennsylvania.

State police say the incident involving Jay Harris, of Washington, Pennsylvania, occurred about 9 p.m. Wednesday. That's when a trooper who officials aren't identifying tried to stop Harris who was allegedly driving erratically on Route 40 in Canton Township.

Police say Harris instead sped away though he eventually lost control, left the road and crashed into a fence.

That's when police say Harris backed his Ford Fusion over the trooper, pinning him under the vehicle, until other troopers arrived to arrest Harris.

Online court records don't list a defense attorney for Harris.

The trooper was treated at a nearby hospital.
