Hearing to Determine Charges for Mall Shooter

A man charged with shooting three people at a suburban Pittsburgh mall was scheduled for a hearing to determine whether he'll stand trial on attempted homicide, aggravated assault and other charges.

Seventeen-year-old Tarod Thornhill, of Penn Hills, is accused of shooting those people in Macy's at the Monroeville Mall about 15 miles east of Pittsburgh on Feb. 7.

Police said Thornhill targeted a 20-year-old man during an argument, and wound up also shooting a couple who were shopping nearby. The alleged target and the male bystander were critically injured, though all three victims are now out of hospitals.

The mall has since restricted minors from most areas on Friday and Saturday evenings and police have reopened a substation there.

Thornhill's attorney did not immediately return a call for comment on Wednesday's hearing.
