Make-a-Wish and Eagles Send Teen Battling Leukemia to Super Bowl

A teenage boy who is battling Leukemia is headed to Super Bowl 50 thanks to the Philadelphia Eagles and the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Eagles head coach Doug Pederson presented the tickets to 14-year-old Nicholas Dion in person on Monday.

“Any time that I get to spend with kids like Nicholas, just kind of touches at my heart strings,” Pederson said.

Nicholas received a full tour of the NovaCare Complex, including the team’s draft room, weight room, and locker room where he sat with his favorite Eagles player Darren Sproles.

“It was cool, the chair was comfy," Nicholas said while smiling.

The Eagles connected with Nicholas via the Make-a-Wish Foundation and truly enjoyed making a special day for a special man.

“He was so excited and it is really one of the best things that I am very fortunate to be able to do,” Eagles President, Don Smolenski, said.

Nicholas, his mother Denise Dion, and his two sisters all received tickets to the big game. Last week Nicholas relapsed again. While he didn't have medical clearance to go to the Pro Bowl, which was his original wish, his medical team is now allowing him to travel to the Super Bowl. The family said they're grateful for the opportunity knowing that they may not have much time left.

“It’s going to mean everything just for me, him, and his two sisters to actually spend some good quality time together and to have fun. Make the most of the time that we have and then just go to the Super Bowl and have fun," Denise Dion said.

The family will leave for San Francisco on Thursday. Nicholas says he will be rooting for the Panthers.
