A New York man intentionally set a fire last week that destroyed a home under construction in North Jersey, authorities said.
Bergen County prosecutors said 19-year-old Antonio Almodovar, of Pomona, was charged with arson, burglary and failure to report and control a fire. His bail was set at $100,000 cash, and it was not known Thursday if he has retained an attorney.
No injuries were reported in the Nov. 19 fire in Mahwah.
An investigation by the major crimes unit/arson squad in the prosecutor's office determined that the fire was deliberately set, though authorities have not yet disclosed a possible motive. The investigation led to Almodovar's arrest early Wednesday.
