Former DA Lynne Abraham Plans to Run for Mayor of Philadelphia

Former longtime Philadelphia district attorney Lynne Abraham says she's running for mayor.

She told The Philadelphia Inquirer on Wednesday that ``I am not keeping it a secret that I'll be entering the race.''

The 73-year-old served as top prosecutor for about 20 years. She declined to run for a sixth term in 2009.

Also Wednesday, former city solicitor Kenneth Trujillo announced his candidacy for mayor.

Abraham and Trujillo now join hopeful Terry Gillen, former executive director of the city Redevelopment Authority, in what could be a crowded Democratic primary this spring.

Philadelphia voters are overwhelmingly Democratic, so the primary winner usually faces light opposition in the general election.

Current Democratic Mayor Michael Nutter cannot run for a third term.
