Lower Merion Student Charged With Punching Asst. Principal

Police say the teen punched the assistant principal in head while they were having a discussion

A 17-year-old student from suburban Philadelphia is facing charges for allegedly punching his high school's assistant principal.

Authorities say the teen hit the administrator in the head while they were having a discussion Thursday at Lower Merion High School.

The assistant principal was treated for head and neck pain at a local hospital and released. District spokesman Doug Young says he expects the administrator to return to school Monday.

The suspect was in juvenile custody in Montgomery County on Friday. He's charged with aggravated assault on a school teacher and other offenses.

Authorities did not release his name because he's a minor.
