Longtime Millersville University Groundskeeper Dies After Lawn Mower Catches Fire

A riding lawn mower caught fire at Millersville University in Pennsylvania, killing the longtime groundskeeper who was using it.

Millersville University President John Anderson says in an email to faculty and students that the worker died Wednesday after the ordeal.

He says 60-year-old Michael Keefer was riding on the lawn mower near the stadium when the fire broke out. He taken to a hospital and died that night.

The Lehigh County Coroner's office on Thursday said cause of death was thermal injuries, and it was deemed an accident.

A university spokeswoman tells LNP it is unclear what caused the fire.

The university and state fire marshal are investigating.

Keefer had worked at the school since 1990.
