Longtime Pa. Clerk of Courts Resigns Amid Probe

Schuylkill County's longtime clerk of courts is resigning amid a corruption probe.

District Attorney Christine Holman and Controller Christy Joy made the announcement at a news conference Friday. They say Stephen M. Lukach Jr. used public money to make personal car payments and buy items for his own use.

The Republican Herald of Pottsville reports that Lukach has returned about $1,100 to county coffers, according to Joy.  Lukach, who faces state and federal investigations, has not been charged.

Lukach has served as clerk of courts for 27 years. He'll resign as of Thursday.

He did not return a phone message from The Associated Press on Saturday.
