Local Teen Battling Illness Gets Room Makeover

A Delaware County teen will wake up to the room of her dreams thanks to the efforts of local volunteers.

Nicole, a 13-year-old girl from Norwood, Pennsylvania suffering from a life-challenging illness, received a bedroom makeover today. Volunteers from Special Spaces, United Healthcare and Bob’s Discount Furniture all helped to upgrade Nicole’s bedroom.

The volunteers completed the makeover in a day’s time. They also restored a rose garden planted by Nicole’s father, who passed away a year and a half-ago.

Special Spaces is a nonprofit organization that designs and constructs personalized bedrooms for children and teens facing life-threatening medical issues.

“They spend a lot of time in the hospital, said Claudia Bionde, a member of Special Spaces. “They spend a lot of time in the doctor’s office. They just need a place that’s theirs, that speaks to them and allows them to find that joy and solitude.”
