A South Jersey sailor and another man are sitting in a Mexican jail accused of murdering a prostitute and stabbing a hotel employee and another prostitute, according to Mexican officials.
Joshua Dockery, who is originally from Runnemede, Camden County, and Jarrett Monzingo were found by Tijuanan Police inside a bloodstained hotel room on February 4 with a prostitute and hotel employee, both of whom had been stabbed, authorities said.
The sailors were taken into custody and charged with attempted murder. It was then investigators say they found evidence linking the men to the January murder of a prostitute in the same hotel.
A 19-year-old woman was found smothered at the hotel on January 17. Police charged the men with her murder after reviewing hotel surveillance video, which they say places the sailors at the hotel.
Mexican prosecutors have charged them with murder and attempted-murder. They are being held at La Mesa Prison in Tijuana.
Both men are active-duty petty officers in the U.S. Navy, based in San Diego, Ca., the Navy confirmed in a statement Wednesday. Dockery is training to be a Navy Seal, according to family.
Dockery’s father said Thursday that he does not believe he did it. He said his son never had so much as a speeding ticket.
