Local Lego League Heads to World Festival

The team made up of eight local students is one of only 85 teams from around the globe with an invitation to attend

The power goes out in the middle of the night and by the time you wake up, your refrigerator is full of spoiled food.

It's happened to just about everyone.

A group of students from our area hope to change that. They call themselves "Team Jireh," and in January their creation of a refrigerator ice pack to prevent food from spoiling during an outage, won them a spot in an international competition, according to Patch.com.

The eight students, ages 12-15, from Quakertown, Upper Saucon and Lower Saucon Township have been invited to the World Festival, a competition associated with the First Lego League, according to Patch.com. The league's goal is to get kids excited about science and technology, and teach them life skills.

Patch.com lists the members of "Team Jireh" as Stephen Gahman, Timothy Gahman, Alison Janney, Samuel Janney, Eliza Caverly, David Lawrence, Maryellen Neumann, and Logan Ziegenfus. They are all homeschooled students.

This is a rare opportunity they are being given. Of the 20,000 First Lego League teams around the globe, only 85 are invited to attend the World Festival, being held April 25-28th in St. Louis, Mo.

"Team Jireh" tells Patch.com they are trying to raise the funds to make it to St. Louis. Click here to find out how you can help.
