Little Emily Makes the Big Leagues

After her famous pitch viewed by millions, little Emily Monforto made it to “the show” Thursday morning. She has the Phillies jersey to prove it.

A guest on the Today Show Thursday morning, the 3-year-old now famous for throwing back the foul ball her father caught at Tuesday’s Phillies-Nationals game received a tiny jersey with her name on it from the Philadelphia Phillies.

Donning her pink Phillies hat and occasionally sucking her thumb, Emily snuggled up to her dad, Steve Monforto, and told Matt Lauer what really brings her to the games:

“Raul Ibanez,” she said.

The left fielder and the food at Citizens Bank Park have the 3-year-old coming back for more.

“I eat hot dogs and cotton candy and peanut,” she said.

Her dad, famous for his loving reaction to the youngsters’ ball toss, spoke about the moment.

“Looking back I should have realized—she gets a ball from dad, she’s going to throw it,” said Monforto. “At the time I was just so excited to give it to her.”

The Phillies gave the family a new ball the night of the game to replace Jayson Werth’s foul ball that Emily sent over the edge. During the Today Show interview, Monforto received a ball signed by Werth.

“That’s so cool,” said Monforto.

When Today Show host Matt Lauer asked him if he was going to give it to Emily, he said, “I’m going to hold this for myself.”
