Lightning Strikes Pennsylvania Church, Sends Debris Raining Down

Lightning struck a church bell tower in south-central Pennsylvania, sending chunks of brick and concrete onto the sidewalk below., authorities said.

It happened at St. Stephen's United Church of Christ along W Market Street Thursday as storms rolled through West York. Fire Lt. Tom Dunn told reporters that the church has a lightning rod, but the bolt missed it and hit the top of the tower.

Dunn said firefighters inspected the top of the building and found minor damage. Some of the chunks did strike vehicles parked below.

No one was inside the church at the time of the strike and no injuries were reported.
