Reduced Term Denied for Man Who Burned Wife with Blowtorch

A judge has declined to reduce the prison term of a central Pennsylvania man convicted of having burned his wife with a blowtorch.

Lancaster Newspapers reports that 53-year-old John C. Lewis Jr. of Manheim argued in Lancaster County Court that he got poor advice from an attorney who advised him to plead guilty in 2011.

Lewis testified at an appeal hearing in July that he was told to expect a six-to 12-year term when he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and terroristic threat charges but was sentenced to 16 to 46 years in prison.

His attorney said he called that a possible sentence but made no guarantees.

Authorities alleged that Lewis used an aerosol can and a lighter to burn his 36-year-old wife, who was also beaten.
