Lehigh University Battles Bedbugs

Adult bedbugs can survive more than a year without eating

Lehigh University is battling a case of bedbugs.

Spokeswoman Debra Protchko says four dorm rooms are being treated for the crawly critters on the school's campus in Bethlehem.

Protchko says the extermination process that began last week has several steps to go through before the rooms can be considered clean. Neighboring dorm rooms have been checked and show no signs of infestation.

Bedbugs feed on human and animal blood and can be difficult to eradicate. They are active mostly at night and hide during the day near where people sleep. Adults can survive more than a year without eating.
