Lawmaker Paul Moriarty Says He Was β€œHumiliated” by False DWI Arrest

A state assemblyman and former southern New Jersey mayor has testified against the police officer charged with making a bogus drunken driving arrest.

Paul Moriarty testified Wednesday against Washington Township Officer Joseph DiBuonaventura. The officer has pleaded not guilty to 14 charges, including official misconduct and tampering with records.

Moriarty says he was humiliated by the arrest.

DWI charges against the former Washington Township mayor were dismissed in May 2013 after video from the officer's cruiser appeared to support Moriarty's story. He said he had not been drinking.

DiBuonaventura's defense attorney says that he was told by a township detective that Moriarty was possibly intoxicated and causing a disturbance in a car dealership before the traffic stop.
