Late ‘Calendar' Firefighter to Grace Cover

Jack Slivinski, the firefighter who was reprimanded after posing for a charity calendar, will now be on the cover.

The late Philadelphia firefighter who was reprimanded for posing for a charity calendar shirtless and later commited suicide, will grace the cover of that calendar, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

Jack Slivinski, 32, was temporarily removed from his duties at the elite Fire Rescue 1 after posing for a "Nation's Bravest" calendar.

The calendar features firefighters from around the country and preceeds go to the families of fallen firefighters.

Slivinski was allowed to return to Fire Rescue 1 less than a week later, in early May.

Less than two months later, Slivinski was found dead in his home by his father.

Despite a letter from the city asking photographer Katherine Kostreva not to use Slivinski's picture in the soon-to-be debuted calendar, she requested permission from the family to use the photo, reports the Daily News.

She says she chose him as the cover because of the city's history -- Ben Franklin founded the first volunteer fire company, according to the paper.

Calendars can be purchased now at www.NationsBravest.com. Kostreva tells NBC Philadelphia that the calendar will debut here in Philadelphia at Kings Oak in the Piazza on Wednesday, September 7, 2011.
