Sandy-Struck Boardwalk Finally Reopens Along Jersey Shore

The last boardwalk in New Jersey to be rebuilt after it was damaged by Superstorm Sandy has reopened.

Long Branch officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday. The city bonded $25 million to reconstruct the one-mile boardwalk, which is composed of composite decking.

The Asbury Park Press reports Mayor Adam Schneider kept his promise to wear shorts and sandals to the reopening. Schneider thanked nearby residents. He said none complained about the pilings being pounded into the ground from June to October.
