Mendte's House Arrest Ends

Larry Mendte's six months of house arrest ended Monday. Mendte pleaded guilty last summer to cyber-spying on former co-anchor Alycia Lane. He hacked into her email account hundreds of times while the two worked at CBS3. Someone with the U.S. Probation Office came to Mendte's Chestnut Hill home and removed the ankle bracelet he wore for monitoring, according to KYW radio.

Mendte will be on probation for two-and-a-half years and still has to deal with Lane's civil lawsuit. In it, she says Mendte and the station ruined her career.

Larry worked at NBC10 before making the move to CBS3. We're not sure what his first "unmonitored move" will be, but judging from the latest entry in his blog, The Mendte Report, it sounds like he's craving a trip "downdeshore."

I think that is the unique connection many of us have with the beach communities. It goes well beyond the sun and the sand. It is the memory of a father, a mother, a friend and the time that was spent with each down the shore. There is a magic in a summer breeze that comes in off the waves that makes us all feel young again.

I remember.

It would happen the day after the last day of school. My Mother would open the back door of our Rambler station wagon carrying a pile of assorted linens and I would peak my head out from amongst the boxes, bags and suitcases. “There you are.” She would say, even though I'm sure she knew I was in the car for the last half hour.

The Rambler was two tones, a pale green and white. It looked like a vanilla and lime sherbet swirl, but not quite. For this shade of green has never quite been repeated since they stopped production of the geek mobile known as the Rambler. It is a color that cannot be found in nature and it was so repulsive to the human eye no one has ever cared to try and reproduce it in a laboratory. Even Crayola said no thanks to Rambler green.

Larry hasn't put the word out on his next career move, but he's back to doing what he does best – writing. And yes, for the perpetually obsessed, he twitters too.
