Former CBS3 Anchor Larry Mendte has gotten a television job in a city that may be too busy to remember--or care--about his scandalous Philadelphia past.
Mendte, whose alleged improper romantic relationship with then co-anchor Alycia Lane led to being charged and convicted of cyber-spying on Lane, is expected to land a five-nights-a-week TV commentator position at New York City’s WPIX-TV, reports the Philadelphia Daily News.
WPIX news director Bill Carey told the Daily News that Mendte has been working on commentary pieces for the station already and expects the scandal-ridden anchor to become a full-time on-air personality for the New York station.
"[The commentaries] will be topically driven on current events," Carey said. "It will feature centerpieces based on Larry's unique take on topics that Larry chooses."
The 53-year-old and his family will still live in Philadelphia, his wife, former Fox29 anchor Dawn Stensland, told the Daily New Thursday. There have been rumors that Stensland may run for U.S. Congress for Delaware County.
As for whether or not Mendte’s well-reported felony conviction or alleged indiscretion was an issue in the decision to hire him, Carey said no.
"He's one of the top writer/producer/storytellers in television,” Carey told the Daily News. “Larry's work speaks for itself.”
