Officials say hunters in Pennsylvania posted the largest harvest of antlered deer since 2002 during the last hunting season.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission says hunters harvested an estimated 333,254 deer in the commonwealth during the 2016-17 season, which closed in January.
That was an increase of about 6 percent over the 2015-2016 harvest.
Of that total, 149,460 were antlered deer, an increase of about 9 percent over the previous license year. That's the largest harvest of antlered deer since 2002.
The commission says bowhunters accounted for nearly one-third of the overall deer harvest, taking 109,250 deer.
The commission's executive director, R. Matthew Hough, reported seeing hundreds of photos from hunters who took "their buck-of-a-lifetime this past season."
