Burglar Drops Into Montgomery County Meat Market, Steals Gun & Money

Incident where a gun was stolen is 2nd recent rappelling heist in Montgomery County in as many weeks

For the second time this month, a robber rappelled into a Montgomery County business.

A burglar rappelled into the Lansdale Meats & Deli Market on N Broad Street in Lansdale through the building's roof vent using a rope around 4 a.m. last Wednesday, Hatfield Township Police said on Facebook. [[414338873, C]]

Once inside, the suspect -- wearing a white head covering, red scarf and gloves to conceal his identity -- tried to pry open the office using a claw hammer but wound up smashing a hole in the store's office drywall, police said.

The suspect stole money and a SCCY CPX-2 semiautomatic 9mm pistol from the office, police said. Investigators entered the gun into the national stolen gun database.

Hatfield police asked anyone with information to call 215-855-0903 or email tips to policetips@hatfield-township.org.

Authorities in Montgomery County are investigating whether the same person is to blame for another rappelling heist. Investigators said the thief who ransacked a Costco in King of Prussia last week had rappelled from a 40-foot skylight.

A robber used a rope to rappel into Lansdale Meat Market on Feb. 15. He wound up swiping a gun and money from the Montgomery County business.
