A landmark Jersey shore eatery has closed four months after its owner filed for bankruptcy protection.

The company that owns the Ocean Bay Diner, or OB Diner, in Point Pleasant has put it up for sale.

The diner has been a fixture for more than 50 years.

Owner Chris Mitchel tells the Asbury Park Press between the weak economy and his wife getting sick, he couldn't do it anymore.

Bankruptcy papers show Mitchel bought the diner for about $1.2 million in 2005 and owes about $914,000.

One of the diner's previous owners says he and his brothers still own the building. They plan to renovate and reopen it if Mitchel can't find a buyer.
