La Salle Students Invent Jacket that Can Charge Smartphones

Two La Salle University students recently traveled to Silicon Valley to compete in the championship round of Network for Teaching Entrepreneurships’ National Challenge. They didn’t come out quite on top, but they surely made a name for themselves.

Jameel Kemp and Aliyah Stephens created a jacket with a cloth solar panel on the back that collects energy and transfers it to a battery pack in the inside pocket. The battery pack has a USB socket, in which wearers can plug in their smartphone cords to charge.

The freshmen duo won the NFTE regional round to qualify their creation (dubbed Technical Fashion) for the championship, which took place last week. They ended up finishing in fourth place out of about 40 participating businesses. Read full story here
