La Salle Employee Gets Prison For Years-Long Theft

Bluebell man sentenced to more than four years in state prison

A longtime La Salle University employee was sentenced to more than four years in state prison after pleading guilty to stealing $5.6 million from the school.

The 59-year-old father of three sobbed in court Tuesday after being sentenced, reports the Daily News.

Stephen Greb of Bluebell, Pa. pleaded guilty to theft, forgery, and unlawful use of a computer last month and admitted to setting up a bogus food company and authorizing payments to himself from the university since 1990.

Greb was director of auxiliary services and his job included oversight of food services, on-campus catering, mail distribution and the campus store.

Greb’s attorney asked the judge to sentence Greb to house arrest and community service, based on the fact that he paid back $3 million. The attorney said that the fact that Greb lost his father at a young age gave him a compulsion to provide for his family.

Assistant District Attorney countered that Greb should get prison time and showed documents stating that Greb used the money for construction of an expensive beach home in Avalon, N.J., as well as $46,000 for kitchen work at his Bluebell home, reports the daily News.

Greb had worked at the Catholic University for 26 years.
