Kidnapping Scam Targets the Elderly

Elderly couple receives anonymous calls that their son was kidnapped; he wasn't

An anonymous caller phoned a couple in their 80s and demanded ransom for their 51-year-old son’s release reported The Delaware County Times. But their son was not kidnapped.

The targeted couple lives in the Granite Farms Estates in Media, Pa.

The elderly couple received numerous phone calls early Thursday morning. State Police told The Delaware County Times that the caller claimed he was holding their son hostage and demanded a ransom be paid if they wanted him released.

Police verified the son was never kidnapped and the phone calls stopped after authorities got involved.

The whole incident put residents in the community on alert and raised questions about who older couples can trust.
