New Jersey’s Kelsi Worrell Falls Short, Chesco’s Tyler Nase Advances in Rio

Two Philadelphia-area athletes in their first Olympics took a step closer to winning gold on Day 1 in Rio but one's effort came up short.

Westhampton, New Jersey swimmer Kelsi Worrell made a splash by winning her heat in the women’s 100m butterfly. Overall, she entered Saturday night’s semifinals in fourth place after clocking 56.97.

But she finished ninth in the highly-competitive semifinal races, missing out on the final by one spot.

Chester County’s Tyler Nase fared better as he rowed into the semifinals in the Men’s Lightweight Four. [[389367491, C]]

Nase and teammates Robin Prendes, Anthony Fahden and Edward King finished second to New Zealand in the third heat. The U.S. Men’s Four rows for the finals on Tuesday morning.

Nase, a Phoenixville, Pennsylvania native who attended LaSalle College High School in Montgomery County before rowing at Princeton University is also participating in his first Games.
