Kelly Drive was shut down in both directions for several hours.

A motorcyclist died after colliding with another vehicle on Kelly Drive in Philadelphia Wednesday night.

George James, 43, of the 6400 block of Ross Street in East Mount Airy, was riding a motorcycle north on Kelly Drive at Brewery Hill Drive around 9 p.m. when he crashed into a 2014 BMW traveling south.

The driver of the BMW, a 48-year-old woman who has not been identified, allegedly made an illegal left hand turn prior to crashing into the motorcycle, police said.

James was taken to Hahnemann Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the BMW was not injured and remained at the scene. Her passenger, an 18-year-old girl, suffered a leg injury but refused medical treatment.

Kelly Drive was shut down until 3 a.m. Thursday morning in both directions due to the crash. No charges have been filed but police continue to investigate.
